The BIG Fashion Trend That’s About To Pop Up In Homes
Back when it was all the rage, I was never cool enough to be a Tumblr girl. I was also pretty averse to technology and the internet back then, which is truly hysterical given my job and that I LOVE IT. However, this post might be the closest thing I’ll ever get to that “Tumblr girl” aesthetic/vibe. It’s a lot of vintage-y, imperfectly styled inspo pics full of filet crochet that I hope will get your creative juices going. I’ve become entranced by this fashion trend and how it’s going to enter our homes! It’s, of course, not new and actually quite old, but as the design world leans more into “lived-in,” layered spaces, I feel in my bones we will see more and more of it, especially since it’s all over fashion at the moment (usually an early predictor of design trends). Here’s what I’ve been seeing in fashion as I’ve been shopping for my summer vacation this year…
While you won’t see me in a sheer skirt like this, I still think it’s so so beautiful! It’s interesting, vintage-inspired, delicate, and so chic.
Here’s another beautiful set. I’m telling you that while I know it’s almost summertime, so these styles are good for the heat, these crochet-inspired/lace pieces are everywhere. Here’s another one from Mango, but at least it’s not 100% see-through:) Actually, don’t get me started on the sheer trend. I love it visually on my screen, but for my bottoms, dresses, and most tops, I need some lining!
I want her outfit as long as it comes with her confidence:) But regardless, I love the mix of shapes and patterns. So fresh yet nostalgic.
But fear not, you don’t have to show off your cheeks if you want to get into the trend, because this sweet headscarf is a perfect “toe dip” into it.
However, this is a design blog, so now that you have a sense of what is happening on the fashion side of filet crochet, let me show you the ways in which I’m drooling over how it can be applied in your home.
Are you kidding me with this? I adore the style, the imperfect way this panel is hung, and how much texture and soul it adds to the room. Plus, it’s the perfect textile to mix with almost any other color or pattern. Look how great it looks with that cabinet curtain!
Did your heart skip a beat too?? This makes me want to move to a small town in Europe and sip coffee (or wine) all day. I really love all of the negative space. It’s quiet and bold at the same time. The question is, where in my apartment can I hang something like this??
It’s also probably time to define filet crochet. It’s “a technique that uses double crochets and chain stitches to create grid-like patterns, resembling low-resolution images or lace,” according to Google. So not all of these examples are grid-like, so they may not technically fall under this definition, but they sure do have the “low-res” and “lace” quality that I can’t get enough of.
Look at this one! It gives you a little more privacy than the others, but still has that negative space and is such a dreamy “semi-private” room divider. But a door curtain is, of course, not the only way to implement this style into your home…
Put it on a glass front door! If your style goal is that eclectic, cozy, layered look, then I think this is an excellent and fairly easy way to help you achieve that. I actually really love how this one above is pinned to the door, but here are some other examples.
Can’t tell if this one is pinned or just hanging, but due to the pattern and tighter stitching, this one seems to offer a good amount of privacy. Pretty and practical:)
I love how this is truly just decorative, and it couldn’t be more charming! Well, actually, I think it’s kind of hiding the blinds behind it, which is a great renter hack.
I really can’t get enough of the warmth they instantly add. This pattern is so sweet, and from what I can tell of the rest of the room, it’s the perfect texture and pattern addition.
Look at them as cafe curtains!! Clearly, this is not the most functional kind of curtain or partition, but what it lacks in practicality, it more than makes up for in beauty and added charm. They can really only improve your space.
How cool is this asymmetrical one?! Perfect to let the light in during the day and a beautiful detail regardless of whether the main curtain is closed or not.
Also, not just for windows and doorways! I love this sweet little bathroom shelving cover. Again, a great renter-friendly hack to cover your less-loved nooks.
This one is made of metal by Wretched Flowers, which is also why I feel strongly that this crochet/embriodered look is brewing for home decor. Isn’t it amazing?! Oh, what I would give to hang that on my empty bedroom wall.

Fun fact (and slightly back to fashion), that metal curtain design inspired my latest manicure! I’ve been INFLUENCED.
Tablecloths are a very easy (and even less permanent) way to incorporate this style into your home. But I do have to say I would be so worried about getting it dirty. But maybe I’m being too precious about it?
Look at this one too!!!
While this isn’t a wildly accessible application, I still had to show you these crochet framed art pieces. SO MUCH INSTANT CHARACTER!
Even this crafty crocheted pendant is stealing my heart. I think I just want to prove that if you love this look, there are so many big and small ways to put it in your home.
Here’s an exhibition of a clothing brand that made these chair covers! Not meant to be a real home item (I don’t think), but again, another example of how designers are really leaning into crochet in incredibly creative ways.
Even this metal chair is crochet/lace-inspired!
Lastly, before we get into some shoppable pieces, I stumbled upon this photo as I was finishing up my Pinterest research, and my jaw hit the floor. While made of wood, these exterior pieces felt so much like crochet, and it made me wish (again) that far more homes had interesting and incredibly unique design elements.
Ok, if you want to feel like a grandmother living in the Mediterranean, here are some really beautiful crocheted curtain options for you:

Vintage French Crochet Lace Panel | Vintage French Filet Lace Tablecloth

Long Antique French Net Lace Curtains | Vintage Crochet Cotton Curtain Panel

Vintage Handmade Filet Lace Panel

Greek Traditional Crochet Curtains | Crochet Lace Rose Curtain
I know this was mostly eye candy, but I do think we should all be watching out for these kinds of pieces to be popping up on our screens and magazines more than they were before. And if you want to dive in with your home, these are not going out of style ever. True craftsmanship never does:)
Love you, mean it.
