The Link Up: The Linen Jacket Emily Can’t Stop Grabbing, Gretch’s Sunkissed Blush, And A Free Way To Help With Your Motion Sickness
Happy Sunday, everyone! Half of the team is taking their summer vacations while the rest of us are holding down the fort:) We’ll be very ready to have them back and get the fun recaps of their trips. How about you all? Any fun trips this summer? Ok, let’s talk about this week’s links…
This week’s house tour is none other than Bravo’s Andy Cohen’s Hamptons house! It’s colorful, playful, yet a totally serene beach retreat. With patterns galore and a rosé-stocked fridge, all of us are dreaming of an invite. We’re ready, Andy!
From Emily: I was shopping this week at the mall and saw my favorite linen jacket on sale at Mango (a store that I rarely find things in, so I usually walk by), 40% off. But y’all, this jacket has been what I grab for almost every nighttime occasion, even if it’s hot. The color looks so good with any blue or green (or washed black, which is what I was wearing at said mall tonight while wearing the jacket). It’s super drapey and soft and is billowy enough to layer underneath (I even wear it over billowy blouses, but it looks great with a striped T-shirt). It’s polished and tailored enough that even when it’s wrinkled, it just looks cool, line linen should (not crisp or scrunchie wrinkles, like soft “been wearing it all summer” wrinkles). Anyway, big fan, and while I don’t need another one, I was tempted since it’s on sale.
From Arlyn: I have been super bummed out by the skin on my face lately. I think moving from the very dry climate of Los Angeles to the very humid East Coast threw my pores for a major loop. There was dullness, acne, and just a general sense of “ugh!!” every time I looked in the mirror. After some research, I decided to give azelaic acid a try, and after about a month, I’m finally seeing a huge difference in my skin. It’s calmed down significantly, it looks far more even and, dare I say…glowy?!?!? Some people complain about dryness, but this one I got from Anua has hyaluronic acid, which keeps things plump and not scaly.
From Mallory: It’s no surprise I’m a wallpaper lover – I just put this in my bathroom and this in a closet at my house, and the fun isn’t gonna stop there. When I was hunting for a direction for my guest bedroom, I GASPED when I found the most perfect yellow stripe wallpaper!! My house is a “loft-ish” ish townhouse, so instead of “surf shack,” we’re going for “surf loft,” and when I saw this wallpaper was described as “coastal sunshine,” I knew it was the perfect choice. I think this wallpaper will be the ideal risky, but also chic design move for my guest bedroom. I want our friends to feel like they’re walking into a boutique hotel by the beach!! More to come, but I am VERY excited.
From: Marlee: I’ve shared this hoodie before, but I have to again because it’s just that good. It’s incredibly soft, comes in such good colors, and I find that it’s such a perfect weight for summer evenings. It’s lightweight enough that if you’re not wearing it, it’s not annoying to tie around your waist, fling over your shoulder, or stash in a bag (sometimes hoodies can just be so thick and stiff). I have a size small in this awesome cobalt color. I also have the men’s version in an XS in black, which is super similar. Honestly, all of their hoodies and sweatpants are so good, so if you’re having a hard time finding your size, scroll around on their site and don’t forget to look at the men’s AND women’s.
From Gretchen: I’ve raved about her products before, and I’m here to add another one to my make-up faves list…Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty line just doesn’t miss for me. While I love her cream compact blushes (my favorite colors are Cool Berry and Rosé Latte), I had been seeing some chatter about the liquid blushes in her line, so I picked one up in Quit Wine’In and OH BOY is it good. It is CRAZY pigmented (some might say too much?) but super blendable, meaning even if I dab on too much, I can still totally save the look. Admittedly, I chose a darker color on purpose because I’ve been wanting my cheeks to pop a bit more in the summer, so it’s tough to say if the other colors in the line are as bright. But the tiniest bit is all you need, so I know that this tube will last me forever. The applicator is great too because you can dab it exactly where you need it and easily blend it out with a brush or your fingers. I feel like it gives a very realistic sun-kissed look, especially with no other makeup on, because it sits on the skin as if its color is coming from within.
From Jess: Well, Gretchen has changed my life. As someone who has only started to experience car sickness in the last 10 years, I still feel like it won’t happen when I’m looking at my phone or, heaven forbid, trying to read. But then, on our retreat, Gretch (our motion sickness queen) suggested I add the “Vehicle Motion Cues” setting on my iPhone. How it works is that it adds “subtle, animated dots on the edges of your screen that match the vehicle’s movement.” IT’S A GAMECHANGER! Here’s how you set it up:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap Accessibility, then select Motion.
- Tap Vehicle Motion Cues.
- Choose On (always active) or Automatic (detects when you are in a moving car).
For an Android, these two apps were recommended to download: KineStop or MotionEase.
From Caitlin: I’m urging EVERYONE to read this Atlantic piece on the modern realities of elder care. The gist? All the money in the world won’t be enough to prevent your loved ones from taking on a ton of work – take it from my firsthand experience! I know it’s bleak and morbid and uncomfortable to think about, but my mom was SO prepared – great health insurance! Disability insurance! A world-class medical team helping to navigate rehab, skilled nursing, hospitals, etc.! – and her sickness still required full-time, 24/7 additional care from me. (I’ve said it before, but I literally don’t know what we would have done without the flexibility provided from my job here.) It was unbelievably hard, and it scares (and saddens!) me that so many of my loved ones will be going through the same experience someday. This is important stuff to noodle on and plan ASAP!!! If you’re going to need to care for a family member someday, I promise that you’d rather know it now. This concludes my boring, responsible PSA
