Dining Room Updates – Drapery Floral Fabric Sample And New Marketplace Chairs
Week before last, I showed y’all the fabric design that I had come up with for the draperies in our dining area, which is the room I hope to tackle when I’m finished with the storage room. Here’s the original design I shared with you.
After I shared that design, I made a few more tweaks to it, added more elements to it (including another bird), and this was the final design I came up with.
Here are the two side-by-side.
I ordered one yard of the fabric so that I could see the pattern in person before ordering a lot of yardage for the curtains. When I initially opened the package and unfolded the fabric, I was so excited. It’s so pretty!
But the more I looked at it, and compared it to the other colors in our home, I decided that the colors might be just a touch washed out. I wanted the blue-green background a little darker (not much, but just a little bit). I wanted the flowers, especially the pink flowers, more vibrant. I hung the fabric over the window shade in the dining area so that the blackout lining on the shade would prevent light shining through the fabric since sunlight shining through the fabric makes it look even more washed out. And I like to sew my draperies with blackout lining, so this would give me a better idea of how the fabric would look on the windows. I put it up there on Friday, and I’ve lived with it up there all weekend.
After looking at it over the weekend, I still think it’s a bit too washed out, so I’ve made an easy edit to make the colors more saturated and vibrant. Here’s a comparison of the original pattern that I created and the new, more vibrant/saturated pattern. It’s a small change, but I think it’ll make a big difference.
In other news, I got dining chairs! I found these on Marketplace.
I was so excited when I found them. They’re exactly what I wanted — chairs that are upholstered on the backs that I can easily reupholster with the colors I want.
And of course, I’ll also paint the wood. They’re in great condition, and they’re very sturdy.
And I especially loved this little spindle detail.
I’m still trying to work out the arrangement in here. I only have four chairs, so if I decide to keep the table expanded, I’ll need to more coordinating chairs for the ends of the table.
I’ll be taking the buffet out of the room, so that will give more room for the end chairs, but I’m still not sure if it’s enough room. I’ll work through those details when I finally get to this room.
But for now, I’m so excited that I now have a table, four chairs, and my drapery fabric. It’s coming together!
