Here’s How To Design A Unique Kitchen With Etsy (Yep, You Read That Right!)

Today, we are here to combine two of our design loves – kitchens and Etsy. Despite how it may seem, this is not an Etsy-sponsored post, ha. It’s just that we are as big of fans of Etsy as all of you and wanted to show you the possibilities of really using them as a full-service design site, as opposed to simply a great place to find vintage art or custom Christmas ornaments (which we might be talking about soon because they take time!). So when Marlee suggested that we show this by way of a kitchen remodel, I thought “PERFECT!” So while there are cabinet makers and vintage hutches you could integrate into your new kitchen on Etsy, this is more for things like tile, curtains, lights, faucets, hardware, etc. If you want, we can do a deeper dive into Etsy kitchen accessories, but these are the permanent/semi-permanent type of kitchen products. And just like most things on Etsy, you can find SO many amazing and unique pieces. This post is really for those who want to create a kitchen that feels very “them” and want to find things that are unexpected. So let’s jump in and start designing your kitchen!

Remember all of Emily’s vintage Boro fabric she sourced on Etsy that now mostly lives in her kitchen? This is just one example of using Etsy as a “unique kitchen” resource! But let’s get into the harder stuff first:)

Etsy may not be the first place where you think to buy tile, but they have a ton! Especially if you want to find an “accent tile” that you want to mix in with your other tiles or create a small cool moment. There’s, of course, vintage tiles, but also fun colors, zellige, pretty patterns, and even antiqued mirrors.

Next up is kitchen islands, again Emily found an incredible vintage island for her farmhouse kitchen (not on Etsy, but you can use it as inspo), and you can find vintage AND new on Etsy. For most of these, they come in different sizes, but since the new ones are made to order, you can always message them and see if they can do custom measurements if you don’t see what you need:) That’s the beauty of Etsy!

Now we have these BEAUTIFUL faucets. To my knowledge, we haven’t purchased any from Etsy, but the reviews on all of these are great. And while these aren’t inexpensive, they are also very special and not as expensive as a lot of other options on the market. How cool are #1 and #3??

Open shelving is another place to have a little fun! Etsy has basically every kind of shelf you could want. Their styles are awesome and varied, and very customizable. Any of these would make such a special addition to your kitchen.

Speaking of customization, look at these INCREDIBLE glass cabinet inserts! I just love the added layer of texture and the visual lightness they bring. Plus, it’s a moment to peek into the cabinets at your pretty things:) I’m sure if you dug, you could find any style you want.

Hardware is the golden child of designing a unique kitchen with Etsy! I think we’ve all used them for this (I used them in my old kitchen here). It’s likely the easiest and most affordable way to add a lot of personality to your kitchen. Also, don’t be afraid to mix and match a few different kinds of hardware. In the house tour yesterday, that’s what they did, and it was awesome.

Ah, my true design love, LIGHTS! Another easy yet impactful way to take a kitchen from meh to stunning. So, depending on the way your kitchen is set up, it may be better to have something more linear light fixture, like #1 and #3. But a twist on a classic chandelier like #2 is also beautiful. Don’t be afraid of a little color, too:)

Pendants, whether that’s a single pendant in a smaller kitchen or multiple over an island. I’m pretty in love with all of these!

Or to go even closer to the ceiling, look at these beautiful semi flush mounts! A good thing to always do (no matter the site) is to double-check measurements. #2 is great regardless of the size, but in the photo on the site, it looks really big, but when you look at the measurements on the site, it’s only 6″. Otherwise, it’s an incredible lighting resource.

Sconces are’t in every kitchen, but when they are, I personally think that they are the place to add an extra layer of whimsy. Play with shapes, colors, and/or go vintage! Another piece of jewelry for your kitchen.

Let’s end with some fun curtains! Remember that Emily also tried a bunch of beautiful block print fabrics as cafe curtains in her kitchen, too? Etsy has sooooo many options. You can buy just the fabric or buy them made (and even customized). I mostly rounded up curtain options that you really don’t see every day (which I’m sure you can see, ha), but know that if you want a pretty, simple linen, that is there for you too!

Again, let this post be a jumping-off point in making a home that feels deeply personal and unique! Etsy allows you to find really special things from the comfort of your sofa, which is such a luxury and really nice if you don’t have a ton of in-person options at your fingertips.
